Backhoe Loader Training

Course Description:

This program has been developed to provide Backhoe Operators with an understanding and awareness on the safe operations and hazards associated with Backhoe operations. This training program meets the OSHA training requirements under CFR 1926 and will incorporate Subpart G – Signs, Signals & Barricades; Subpart O – Motor Vehicles, Mechanized Equipment; Subpart P – Excavation; and Subpart W – Rollover Protective Structures & Overhead Protection. The course consists of classroom study (course materials provided), written exam, video presentation, on-site hazard assessment, equipment inspection and a practical “hands on” performance evaluation of each operator.** Participants will receive a photo identification laminated wallet card “Certificate of Completion” upon successful completion of this course. This card is not a Hoisting License. The Employer will receive class rosters, “hands on” practical evaluation forms and a “Certificate of Completion” for each operator that successfully completes the training. This documentation should be produced as “proof of training” for an OSHA inspector. This class is not a Hoisting License class. If a Hoisting License is required, you must apply for the Hoisting License and attend the hoisting license exam through the state to which you operate a backhoe loader. Minimum Class Size: 4 students Maximum Class Size: 12 students Time: 3 1/2 to 4 Hours (depending on class size and experience of the operators) **Must have backhoe loader on site for the hands-on training portion of this course.
All classes are taught in English.
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:- Understand the technical and stability aspects of Backhoe operations.- Understand how to identify work place hazards.- Identify and understand the causes of Backhoe accidents.- Identify the major parts and components of a Backhoe; including basic hydraulic operations.- Demonstrate how to conduct a workplace and pre-use equipment inspection.- Demonstrate through a practical “hands-on” evaluation, the safe operation of a Backhoe.- Successfully complete a written exam of course study material. Topics to be discussed: - The most serious accidents associated with Backhoe Loaders. - Responsibilities of a backhoe operator. - Hazard recognition. - Site Inspections, Pre-Start Inspection, Operations Function. - Test, Operator Evaluation. Course Materials Provided:- Backhoe Loader Safety Handbook.- Certificate of Training Wallet Card. Construction & General Industry.
NOTE: Some States require that you have a hoisting license in order to operate a Backhoe Loader. This includes needing one for training as well. Before operating any equipment, it is up to the operator of the equipment to check with their state to see if a Hoisting License is required. Hoisting Licenses are obtained through the State where you will be operating this equipment.
